Natural Skin Care Remedies for Menopausal Skin - How Menopause is Hurting Your Face

In this article I intend to keep on a specific topic regarding menopause:  Your skin. More specifically, your facial skin.  With the overwhelming amount of information available on the topic of the effects of menopause on your entire body (Which I have researched extensively and could probably write a whole series of books on just the information I've found on the internet! Ha!)  I want to address  how menopause effects only your skin and provide you with natural skin care remedies, ideas and alternatives to help you address your skin care concerns during this time in your life.

OH!  WHAT MENOPAUSE CAN DO TO YOUR FACE .  YIKES !

Most of the changes your skin goes through during menopause is due to a decrease in the amount of Estrogen. During menopause the skin also produces less collagen and elastic fibers, and thus starts the visible  wrinkles and sagging skin.  Melanin production begins to slow down as well, which results in a lightening of the skin tone, giving you less radiant skin.   The reduction of estrogen and changing ratios of hormones in the body just doesn't slow down your body's oil production, but also reduces the body's ability to retain moisture (which results in the constant battling of dry skin).

Menopause can make a woman's skin more susceptible to skin disorders like psoriasis, eczema and rosacea.
Skin can also become pigmented with dark or light brown spots. To combat this, look for natural ingredient such as licorice extract, Kojic Acid, mulberry extract, latic acids, lemon juice and Vitamin C.

Beside dry skin, loss of collagen and elastin, and melanin productions (previous mentioned), menopause is also partially responsible for

Fine lines and wrinkles
decrease in skin strength
unwanted facial hair
decrease in dermal thickness
thinning of the skin
acne breakouts (those big "undergrounders" as commonly referred to)

In addition to all this, there are 3 additional factors that affect everyone skin over the course of their lifetime:

Environmental aging - skin comes into contact with pollutants, sprays, extreme temperatures, wind, smoke.

Intrinsic aging  - As skin ages it becomes more difficult to carry out it's normal functions. Skin thins and the production of collagen and elastins decease.

PhotoAging - Exposure of the skin to UV rays over the years.

SO WHAT CAN WE DO TO SAVE OUR FACE?

There are several options as to the course of action that you can take. I am emphasizing the natural remedies and ingredients that are readily available for you to use.  Why? Because these natural ingredients and remedies are safe with no side effects and do show positive results.

Just as a sample, I will share a few tips and ingredients to help you get started battling the effects of menopause on your skin.

Learn of the natural ingredients that encourage collagen production, and natural ingredients that contain Vitamin A.  Just as an example, Avocado stimulates collagen production ( I have several great recipes using avocado at http://natural-skin-care-center.blogspot.com , and they are easy to make).

Protect yourself from the sun at all times by using at least a SPF15 sun block , even in overcast conditions.

Providing your skin with natural, topical antioxidants helps menopausal skin.  For example, green tea is a great antioxidant to use. You can take green tea extract,  or drink green  tea, and even use green tea  on your face as a topical remedy ( I have green tea skin care recipes at http://natural-skin-care-4-u.blogspot.com) . I personally use the green tea skin care recipes and find it most beneficial.

Exfoliate your skin on a regular basis using alpha and beta hydroxy natural remedies. Use natural ingredients that contain alpha and beta hydroxy, such as milk, and fruits.  (You can get a selection of skin care recipes with alpha and beta hydroxy , also at http://natural-skin-care-4-u.blogspot.com).
