"Excessive facial hair" in woman is defined as "hirsutism" Excessive facial hair is defined by the presence of course, dark hair on the lips, chin, chest or sideburn area. This is a result of higher levels of the hormones called "dihydrotestosterone", a precursor to testosterone. Hirsutism can be blamed on heredity. For example, European woman are more likely to have facial hair than African or Asian woman. If your mother and grandmother had facial hair, it is likely you will grow facial hair as well. If hirsutism is not genetic, than it is likely due to a medical condition.
