Olive Oil Skin Care Recipes

Olive oil is commonly used today on everything from treating stretch marks, to acne treatments and in anti-aging therapy.  Olive oil production dates back almost 6,000 years, and  in ancient Egyptian civilization it was used as a natural remedy for skin care.
Olive oil is a very important natural skin care ingredient and a great ingredient to use to fight the signs of aging because:

Olive Oil contains antioxidants including vitamin A, B, D, E and K.

Olive Oil contains hydroxytyrosol - a rare and effective antioxidant found in the oil that prevents free radical damage.

Olive Oil contains very potent anti-inflammatory properties.

Olive Oil contains chlorophyll, which helps to repair and feed skin cells.

Olive oil also contains polyphenols, which can REVERSE the process of aging , which will reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Note:  It is recommended that you choose 100% extra virgin olive oil to use on the skin because it is cold pressed. Avoid heat pressed oils, as they are usually void of the vitamins and healthy elements you are looking for in the oil.

Ways to use Olive Oil on the skin:

Olive oil as a moisturizer -
Olive oil can be use on any part of your body, not just your face.  It can be applied directly to the skin as a moisturizer. You can apply it to the feet, hands, elbows - where ever you have dry skin that needs moisturizing. You can apply it and wait several minutes and rinse off, or you can leave on your skin . Olive oil works great on the face as a night cream,  and as a daytime moisturizer as well, and when applied to aging and damaged skin will help to maintain a youthful appearance and reduce the toll that free radicals takes on your skin.

Olive Oil for Dry, Irritated Skin  Conditions -
Adding a few drops of olive oil to your bathwater will keep your skin moisturized and radiant.  Adding olive oil to your bathwater will also help with the discomfort of dry irritated skin conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis.

Olive oil makes a great makeup remover. Dab a few drops on a cotton ball and hold it to the eye area for about 15-20 seconds and wipe makeup away. It even removes water proof mascara .

Olive Oil can also be used for shaving. You can avoid razor bumps, nicks and rashes by applying enough oil to coat the area you want to shave and draw your razor over the areas that are doused in olive oil.

Olive oil as an exfoliant -
Using olive oil as an exfoliant will help remove clogged pores and dead skin cells. Olive Oil will not clog pores.

Try this simple exfoliant:
4 tablespoons granulated sugar + 3 tablespoons olive oil make a great exfoliant for the skin. Use this on the entire body in the shower.  You can use on the face as well, but some sources suggest using SEA SALT mixed with Olive oil works more effectively on the face.
Exfoliating on a regular basis (at least once a week) will get you on your way to healthier and younger looking skin.

Olive Oil as a mask -
Use this Lemon Olive Oil mask on a regular basis to see positive results. It can be used on any skin type.

1 teaspoon olive oil
few drops lemon juice
1/2 cup cooked (and cooled) instant oatmeal
1 egg white

Mix ingredients together. Apply to face and neck area for approximately 15-20 minutes and rinse off with warm water.
This mask is a very effective mask because the olive oil moisturizes, the lemon juice will work to fight blackheads and impurities in the skin, the egg helps to firm and tighten the skin, and the oatmeal nourishes the skin.
