Anti-Aging Fact or Myth

Using a rich moisturizer now will prevent wrinkles later .

MYTH.   Moisturizers do what they say – moisturize.  Formulas that contain glycerin, petrolatum and hyaluronic acid hydrate by helping cells attract and hold on to water molecules.
Therefore, more moisture in the skin will temporarily make the skin look plumper, minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.   For long term wrinkle prevention, look for moisturizers that contain anti-aging ingredients like retinol and alpha hydroxyl acids.

Drinking lots of water will keep me looking younger.

MYTH.  Water does the whole body good, but when it comes to chasing off the signs of aging, it’s hardly the cure.  Unless you are severely dehydrated, drinking a little more or less water than usual will not show up on your skin.  If you skin is severely dehydrated, use a good moisturizer which will help your skin to look smoother and plumper, but only for the short term.

Topical Oxygen Treatments will make my face look younger.

MYTH.  Our skin gets plenty of oxygen from our bloodstream. There is no evidence that rubbing or spraying your face with oxygen does anything.

Tanning beds are much safer than tanning on the beach.

MYTH.  There is NO SUCH THING as a healthy tanning bed.  If there’s enough light in the box to tan you, than there’s enough to cause SKIN CANCER and WRINKLING .

In the attempt to continue the theme of natural skin care at home,  I have another fantastic recipe to share with you.  This works very well to moisturize dry skin.

Avocado and honey both can be used alone and make fantastic masks, Honey is  a natural humectant,  and avocados are full of natural oils and protein, and increase collagen production. In this recipe both are combined. After just one application your skin will be visibly softer and smoother:

HONEY-AVOCADO MASK

½ fresh avocado, approximately 1/3 cup
1 teaspoon honey

Mix both ingredients together until smooth and creamy.  Massage into face and neck area.
Let sit for 20 minutes and rinse well with warm water.
