“Exfoliate” means to periodically remove the top layer of dead skin cells. The top layer of skin is responsible for making your complexion look dull. Removing these dead skin cells will instantly make your skin look younger and radiant. Exfoliating, even more than just cleansing will help lotions and creams you put on afterward penetrate more effectively. Don’t overdo it though – once or twice a week will usually do it. If you have sensitive skin or eczema you might not be able to exfoliate at all.
Enzyme exfoliants contain enzymes from papaya, pineapple, pumpkin, as well as botanical extracts.
These enzymes loosen dead skin cells and other debris. Unless you are allergic, these tend to quite gentle and smell wonderful. Enzyme exfoliants are best for those who want gentle cleansing, but watch out if you are sensitive to the ingredient itself.
Here are a few examples of how easy it is to exfoliate with ingredients right from your kitchen:
SUGAR SCRUB - A GREAT EXFOLIANT
3 TABLESPOONS MILK
2 CUPS WHITE SUGAR (APPROX)
1-1/2 TEASPOON OLIVE OIL
1 TABLESPOON HONEY
MIX TOGETHER UNTIL IT IS NOT RUNNY (MAY NEED TO ADD MORE SUGAR). APPLY TO DRY FACE IN CIRCULAR MOTION. WASH OFF WITH WARM WATER AND PAT DRY. REFRIGERATE LEFTOVERS.
** NEVER ATTEMPT TO HEAT MIXTURE
