Antioxidants are
not only good for your body when ingested, but have shown remarkable results on
your skin when used topically as well.
Topical
antioxidants work to reduce free radicals, which are unstable small molecules
which are generated by an oxygen environment. When free radicals are generated,
oxidation will occur.
Vitamin C is
recognized as a powerful antioxidant, helping to increase collagen production,
promote healing, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and minimize the appearance of
scars.
Vitamin C can be
found in skin care products as well, in several different forms such as
L-Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin C Ester and Ascorbyl Palmitate.
Vitamin A, Tretinoin and Retinol are also effective
antioxidants for the skin.
Tretinoin,
available by prescription, is the strongest of the Vitamin A derivatives, but
may be irritating to the skin. Retinol,
which does not require a prescription, is another form of Vitamin A that has
shown similar results as Tretinoin.
Vitamin A has
shown to help fight the signs of aging, as well as
Improve
Elasticity
Reduce acne
increase skin
hydration
decrease enlarged
pores
increase collagen
production
increase the
thickness of the skin
Green Tea, when used topically has shown to repair
sun damage, prevent premature aging, enhance skin tone, and stimulate new skin
growth. Green tea can be applied
directly to the face by steeping the green tea bag (same way as if you were
going to have a cup of green tea), allow it to cool and apply directly to the
face using a cotton ball. It is best to do this in the evening and leave it on
your face overnight. A simple effective green tea recipe can be found at http://natural-skin-care-remedies-4-u.blogspot.com.
Acai Oil
contains anthocyanins and
phyto-sterols that act as astringents keeping the skin taut, which results in
fewer wrinkles.
Vitamin E
helps to prevent
premature aging, and protects and repairs sun damage. Vitamin E capsules can be
found at most drug and grocery stores in liquid or capsule form. You can soak
the capsules in hot water until the outer shell becomes soft, and squeeze the
vitamin E gel out of the capsule. You can apply the gel directly to the face,
or add a dab to the face cream or
under-eye lotion you are currently using before you apply it to the face. (hint:
this is what I do and can verify that it works very well).
Topical Vitamin E
creams help decrease skin roughness, the depth of wrinkles, as well as the
length of facial lines. Vitamin E also has shown to be useful in removing
scars, eliminating stretch marks, treating of minor sunburn. Additionally,
Vitamin E has also shown to bring about improvements in psoriasis and eczema. Most Positive results were shown when used
twice a day.
