Natural Skin Care Remedies for Menopausal Skin - How Menopause is Hurting Your Face

In this article I intend to keep on a specific topic regarding menopause:  Your skin. More specifically, your facial skin.  With the overwhelming amount of information available on the topic of the effects of menopause on your entire body (Which I have researched extensively and could probably write a whole series of books on just the information I've found on the internet! Ha!)  I want to address  how menopause effects only your skin and provide you with natural skin care remedies, ideas and alternatives to help you address your skin care concerns during this time in your life.

OH!  WHAT MENOPAUSE CAN DO TO YOUR FACE .  YIKES !

Most of the changes your skin goes through during menopause is due to a decrease in the amount of Estrogen. During menopause the skin also produces less collagen and elastic fibers, and thus starts the visible  wrinkles and sagging skin.  Melanin production begins to slow down as well, which results in a lightening of the skin tone, giving you less radiant skin.   The reduction of estrogen and changing ratios of hormones in the body just doesn't slow down your body's oil production, but also reduces the body's ability to retain moisture (which results in the constant battling of dry skin).

Menopause can make a woman's skin more susceptible to skin disorders like psoriasis, eczema and rosacea.
Skin can also become pigmented with dark or light brown spots. To combat this, look for natural ingredient such as licorice extract, Kojic Acid, mulberry extract, latic acids, lemon juice and Vitamin C.

Beside dry skin, loss of collagen and elastin, and melanin productions (previous mentioned), menopause is also partially responsible for

Fine lines and wrinkles
decrease in skin strength
unwanted facial hair
decrease in dermal thickness
thinning of the skin
acne breakouts (those big "undergrounders" as commonly referred to)

In addition to all this, there are 3 additional factors that affect everyone skin over the course of their lifetime:

Environmental aging - skin comes into contact with pollutants, sprays, extreme temperatures, wind, smoke.

Intrinsic aging  - As skin ages it becomes more difficult to carry out it's normal functions. Skin thins and the production of collagen and elastins decease.

PhotoAging - Exposure of the skin to UV rays over the years.

SO WHAT CAN WE DO TO SAVE OUR FACE?

There are several options as to the course of action that you can take. I am emphasizing the natural remedies and ingredients that are readily available for you to use.  Why? Because these natural ingredients and remedies are safe with no side effects and do show positive results.

Just as a sample, I will share a few tips and ingredients to help you get started battling the effects of menopause on your skin.

Learn of the natural ingredients that encourage collagen production, and natural ingredients that contain Vitamin A.  Just as an example, Avocado stimulates collagen production ( I have several great recipes using avocado at http://natural-skin-care-center.blogspot.com , and they are easy to make).

Protect yourself from the sun at all times by using at least a SPF15 sun block , even in overcast conditions.

Providing your skin with natural, topical antioxidants helps menopausal skin.  For example, green tea is a great antioxidant to use. You can take green tea extract,  or drink green  tea, and even use green tea  on your face as a topical remedy ( I have green tea skin care recipes at http://natural-skin-care-4-u.blogspot.com) . I personally use the green tea skin care recipes and find it most beneficial.

Exfoliate your skin on a regular basis using alpha and beta hydroxy natural remedies. Use natural ingredients that contain alpha and beta hydroxy, such as milk, and fruits.  (You can get a selection of skin care recipes with alpha and beta hydroxy , also at http://natural-skin-care-4-u.blogspot.com).

Using coconut oil recipes on the skin,  (and you can also drink coconut oil  as well!)  will help your skin with sun aging, and is a great smoothing and hydrating ingredient for the skin (you can get natural recipes using coconut oil at http://natural-skin-care-center.blogspot.com).

Some woman experience unwanted facial hair. Many woman are not aware that spearmint tea is an  effective ingredient when it comes to battling facial hair. If you looking for a solution to this problem try a natural skin care recipe using spearmint tea before you invest in a more expensive remedy.

I have BRIEFLY addressed just a few ingredients, and addressed some of the  skin care concerns associated with menopause. I have even referenced other places to get more detailed information and recipes if you like.

Now I'd like to introduce you to NATURALLY SKINSATIONAL. What I like to call  "my one-stop resource  center for all my skin care concerns" . Natural Skin Care Don't Pay For The Jar

I recently read some articles that I feel I HAVE to share with you .

One of the most recent was about a woman who was suing Proctor & Gamble because she bought a wrinkle cream that didn’t show results in the promised time frame….Well, okay. Are you surprised by this? I think I’d feel lucky to just get my money back and consider it a “learning experience”.

Also, recently I am finding articles about more and more anti-aging products that  contain MERCURY as an ingredient. Okay..well, that is a real scary  scenario if you ask me ! Makes me even more cautious about what I buy to put on my face.!

And the latest… well, try to wrap our brain around this one.   I found an article about a cosmetic company that is releasing a “limited edition moisturizing cream that promises to REDUCE fine lines and wrinkles – at the cost of $13,000.00.  Yes…this IS NOT a typographic error !  $13,000.00.  The article goes on to explain the the cream is currently being sold for $632.00 ( 1.8 oz package), but they are putting out 3 jars of it (Limited Edition)  “which will be sold in limited packaging as the moisturizer is encased in 30 layers of crystal and housed in a handmade jar topped with 3 PLATINUM RINGS!  They go on to explain about the fancy jar, but make no reference to the product contained INSIDE the jar.

I am not sharing this with you to cause more frustration, and I don’t “have it in” for major cosmetic companies, BUT, MY DEAR FRIENDS, Cosmetic companies are out to make money and are NOT “genuine in their advertising promises !  WE ALL KNOW THIS, but yet we are guilty of having hope – and “let me try just ONE MORE TIME to see if maybe this one will work” surfaces again.   And guess what? Disappointment and frustration again.

So where does this leave us ?  Hopeless, angry, defeated,  and ready to just accept what mother nature has to throw at us ?

I THINK NOT !!!
THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE.

What you ask? …. It’s simple.

All Natural Skincare.  It take a little research, some experimenting, but you must have a solid system to follow that gives you solid facts and information.  A blueprint, if you will, to put you in control of your own skin care needs, and to help you achieve the results you are looking for.
That’s where Sue Dolan and Naturally Skinsational comes into the picture.  That’s what Naturally Skinsational is all about – the knowledge, guidance and the ability to give you the power to take control of your own skincare needs.

How to fight the signs of aging and your skin care concerns is not remedied by searching for that “miracle in a bottle” or that “magic potion” that doesn’t exist. It’s just not that “easy”.

You need the guidance to get the power and knowledge to win the battle and Naturally Skinsational is the best place to  turn . And remember, you can follow me for tips, tricks and natural homemade skincare recipes (a lot of them used by me personally) or recommended to me from  reliable sources. And don't forget that what you put into your body has an effect on your skin as well. "Garbage in-garbage out" still applies. Remember to eat right and drink enough water to help your skin as well.

On a tight budget?  Natural skin care is cost effective - you probably have several natural ingredients in your kitchen now to get you started.

If you have any tips or trick to share, please do so before you leave and remember to share with your friends too.  MIRACLES DO NOT HAPPEN OVER NIGHT – be patient, and most important – Stick with your routine. But never be afraid to try new ingredients as well, and I guarantee you will not be left feeling powerless or defeated again.

Reducing Wrinkles using Super Supplements

Here is some basic information on the best anti-aging vitamins

“Free Radicals” are unstable oxygen molecules that attach themselves to the molecules, attacking cell membranes and vital cell components.  They can deactivate important enzymes and even damage DNA.  The oxidation process that that takes place is believed to be responsible for the breakdown of cells that precedes aging and disease.

Antioxidant vitamins and nutrients work to “sweep up” free radicals and neutralize them.  The primary antioxidants are vitamin A in the form of beta carotene, vitamin C and E, and the trace elements selenium and zinc, but there are also a number of other antioxidant nutrients.  Let’s review the benefits of these nutrients as they pertain to our skin.

Vitamin  E is the main fat-soluble antioxidant used in the body.  This means Vitamin E must be taken with foods containing fat in order to be assimilated. Vitamin E has the strongest healing ability of all vitamins. Although vitamin E is crucial to body health, it is not manufactured by the body. To receive the antioxidant effects of vitamin E, you will need to take more than the current RDA (recommended daily allowance).  A dosage of 800 to 1200 I.U. a day would suffice.  (You can split up the dosage and take at different times during the day).  Vitamin E may be applied directly to the skin via lotions and creams, as it is a highly moisturizing oil.  Applied on the skin it can protect from UV ray, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and help to delay the progression of aging.  Taken either way, it helps heal scarring and wounds. If you have ever used Vitamin E on the skin, you’ll know that it is very thick and heavy. Because of this it is easier to use as a treatment left on the skin for a few hours and then washed off.

Vitamin C is also an antioxidant. It helps LDL cholesterol from being oxidized in to its damaging form. It activates folic acid and prevents the oxidation of other vitamins.   Vitamin C helps the body heal itself, resist infection and build and maintain collagen and elastin. Our need for vitamin C increases with age. It strengthens the skin and capillary walls.  Fruits such as papaya, strawberries, and cantaloupe are high in vitamin C, as are dark green vegetables, cabbage, potatoes and rose hips.

Vitamin A is one of the two vitamins that can be absorbed by the skin.  It is highly beneficial to the hair and nails as well.  It helps fight acne and premenstrual skin eruptions. It increases blood flow, stimulates the skin and helps to keep it supple.  Vitamin A is the only vitamin that is stored by the body, making it potentially toxic if too much is stored.  This is why it is safer to take large doses of beta-carotene.  Beta carotene can be safely taken in doses ranging from 5000 to 25,000 I.U. daily.

Zinc is important in health skin and necessary for collegen formation.  It aids in assimilation of vitamins A and B and combines with Vitamin A for protein synthesis, which makes healing possible.  Good sources of zinc are eggs, fish, peas ,nuts ,beans, grain, sunflower seeds and dairy products. Zinc helps to prevent acne, regulates oil glands and clears skin problems.

Here is a super easy all natural skin care recipe using vitamin E capsules that reduce fine lines and wrinkles under your eyes  in a SHORT period of time ( I personally use this and had great success, and I'm a pretty tough critic !)

Purchase the strongest Vitamin E capsules you can find (I'm using 400 I.U.
but 800 to 1200 I.U. is usually recommended)
Dissolve a few capsules in just enough really hot water to form the paste.
When cool, dab a bit (it's very thick & sticky) under your eyes.  Add a dab of your
favorite eye creme over it and GENTLY apply to eye area.  (Or you can pre-mix the
two before applying to the eyes).

It's so simple and so effective. (and inexpensive)
And just for the fun of it .... I wipe a little bit of it on my dry chapped knuckles on my hands or elbows and see a difference the following day! ( I usually do all this at night - only takes a few minutes).

Hope this information was helpful !
